PAINTING A PANORAMIC – CAPRI SHOT FROM MY HOLIDAY 2013

image

The original photograph and the stages! I could talk about how I did it but how boring would that be! I used a mixture of gouache and acrylic paint and was sure to paint the sides and sign it at the end! I was pleased with it and it sat on my easel for a week but is going to my brother for his birthday! Hope he likes it!!

V&A FASHION FESTIVAL

After getting a load of work done and really getting settled into my course, I decided to give myself a treat on Saturday! I managed to go the Fashion Festival at the V&A devised by CreateVoice with my good friend and fellow blogger Rosie ( ineedasaviour.tumblr.com and rosiestorerart.tumblr.com ). All the events were free and drop-in and we had a great time! After looking at the fab stalls and speaking to a few young designers we went to see ‘in conversation with Maria Grachvogel’ in the beautiful lecture theatre. I found it interesting to hear about her background and how she got to where she is now in the fashion industry but ultimately I was glad that I’m going through university to get there myself. She seems a very intelligent and fabulously creative woman, but I will always favour education over going out and getting a job, even in this economic climate and with university fees so high. I believe that you learn so much at university if you’re willing to work hard and so much of what you learn isn’t on the curriculum. The way I see it; we can learn a lot either way but university is typically the place for learning, expanding tour mind and being around so many different types of people you can learn from. ANYWAY, enough of my rant!! We then queued up for the Henry Holland talk – eek!! Even though we weren’t likely to get in, we stayed in the queue and managed to get a seat, on the floor RIGHT INFRONT OF HIM. Yay!!! As you can see by my picture!

Naturally his interview was insightful and entertaining and I was squeaking because I was so close! He discussed how he started out and his favourite and least favourite collections and I respect and adore him even more!!

We then went to a demonstration by the illustrator Stuart McKenzie which was fast-paced and exciting. We did quick loose drawing which are really my style!

We then saw a mini talk held by Claudine Rousseau on New fibres and fabric! Ooh!

Then topped off the day with a fantastic talk by the young designer Jane Bowler. I love her style and the materials that she uses and here are some of her pieces one of which has been worn by Rita Ora! Another piece was borrowed and stolen by Lady Gaga!! I loved the advice that Jane gave us and she was so easy to chat to, I will no doubt be posting about her again! She predominantly works with plastic, leather and chain linking methods.

I absolutely loved everything about this collection by Charlotte Lucy Barry. Her inspiration was Herculaneum and Pompeii – where I visited this summer!! We had a lovely chat about her work and I was so inspired!

This stunning beaded trench was made by Alex Housden. I love pieces like this, so stunning and intricate. The silk organza had the gradient beadwork hand-stitched onto it which took over 160 hours to do and comprised of approximately 350,000 seed beads!!!

We also had a look at stalls by Juliana Sissons and Suzie Lee which were fantastic!

BERWICK STREET FABRIC SHOPPING

I had a fabulous time fabric shopping in Berwick street with my good friend Cat from my course. We were looking for fabrics for our current project and I was looking at fabrics with interesting textures in yellow, light and dark grey, electric blue and black. Here’s what I found! Follow my instagram for the fabulous free samples that I got from each shop!!
